THE NOMINATIONS

The Mask Awards® Nominating Committee is a group of 15 thespian professionals selected by the Mask Awards® Administration Committee. Nominators serve for a limited term. They are tasked to see every production to determine the nominees for each category. They determine the nominations based on secret ballots supervised by an accounting firm.

HOW VOTING WORKS

There are approximately 25 members of the Mask Awards® Judges Panel, a number that will keep growing each year. These include voting members of the JUB and MAP, along with designated members of The National Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Partitioners (NANTAP), The Society of Nigeria Theatre Artists (SONTA), Dance Guild of Nigeria (GOND), and The Society for the Performing Arts in Nigeria (SPAN). Other eligible voters include arts and entertainment press personalities, theatre and performing arts educators, ticketed theatre going members of the public, and some members of the Mask Awards® Nominating Committee.

Judges are expected to either attend or watch the video recording of all nominated productions; or at least refrain from voting in any category in which they have not seen all of the nominees. Voting by secret ballot takes place in the weeks before the ceremony. The Mask Awards® Judges Panel’s vote tally constitute 80% of total vote cast towards any category except the Fan favourite categories.

The general public gets to vote via SMS and Online once the nominees are announced. The general public’s vote tally constitute 20% of votes cast in each category except the Fans Favourite categories, which fans votes constitute 100%.

Strict precautions are taken to assure that no one, save for a limited number of representatives from the accounting firm that manages the voting, knows the name of the winners until they are announced during the awards.
